My work evolves from a combination of field sketches, photographs, and the memory of a chosen setting. My goal is not to duplicate a scene but to represent its essence. At times the image may even take its own unique direction. It is the spirit of the landscape, its smells, sounds, and impressions that I want to bring forth on my canvas. When painting in my studio, I am able to relive the magic of the place and the serenity I felt at that time. The organic world gives me a sense of renewal and the ability to face the challenges of daily life. It is this experience that I hope to share with the viewer, that they too may feel the spirit of the landscape and be renewed.
