Wood Nymphs and Other Curiosities...The Series, Wood Nymphs and Other Curiosities came about when I wanted to enter work in UNCLAD, an annual show featuring the nude figure. Having been a long time since I had done any figure work, it gave me the incentive to do so again. However, I knew any figure I would do, would have to be placed in a forest setting. I had the perfect tree in mind and after much figure drawing, came up with a female figure that was just right for my tree. Then I added a few wood nymph butterflies and she became my first "wood nymph"! Pleased with the results, I went on to create another female figure, gave her wings, also with the markings of the wood nymph butterfly, then I had two! I was on a roll and went on to create a few fairy drawings in miniature using the markings of the wood nymph butterfly on their wings. I like having the figure as a fantasy persona to place in a recognized setting or landscape. I have received positive feedback and I'm creating images that are fun to work with! I am glad I started this series and hope you enjoy this mix of fantasy and realism.
